Wave will be replacing emails but not too soon, I guess.  People are not yet ready to make the transition.  The first time I was on Wave and I sent out invitations - zero response.  It's just like Facebook back then, everybody was hesitant to join the network site until it gained popularity and functionality.  Wave is still in it's Preview stages so watch out for more improvements.  Epipheo Studios made a very clear presentation of Wave then Google's very loooooooong introduction - What is Google Wave?
