Bye Bye PHP 4
« on: July 16, 2007, 10:15:48 AM »
php.net has just announcement the discontinued support of PHP4 as PHP 5 is now in full implementation. Here's the glimpse of the bulletin...

PHP 4 end of life announcement

Today it is exactly three years ago since PHP 5 has been released. In those three years it has seen many improvements over PHP 4. PHP 5 is fast, stable & production-ready and as PHP 6 is on the way, PHP 4 will be discontinued.

The PHP development team hereby announces that support for PHP 4 will continue until the end of this year only. After 2007-12-31 there will be no more releases of PHP 4.4. We will continue to make critical security fixes available on a case-by-case basis until 2008-08-08. Please use the rest of this year to make your application suitable to run on PHP 5.

sad to say that php4 is no longer supported due to php5 full blown release but as far as im concerned, there are lot of things php4 outruns the speed power of php5.

why fix if ain't broke... ;) just my two cents in peso. heheh

the developers said there are security issues that prompted them to move to php 5.

yes, pero naa advantages/disadvantages... so it depends sa developer and designer unsa ang ilang needed based on the system design. para sa mga old systems tngali, dont just upgrade to php5 (if not necessary). if you're a developer then you understand the difference.

php5 is way better in terms of memory usage and other resources,
daghan CMS mo generate error500 kay execution time is way over
allocated sa webserver
