Hayahay In Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:36:52 AM »
On August 4, 2010, I went with my uncles and aunties to visit my family (extended family) in Southern Leyte. The towns that we visited there were Padre Burgos, Maasin, Bato, Sugod, and Pintuyan.

The Following Pictures are an attempt to capture the magical experience of seeing and meeting my relatives (Lucino and Ebuenga side) of my Paternal side.

We arrived in Maasin, Southern Leyte via a barge (which we used to transport my Isuzu Crosswind AV) , then drove from Maasin to Padre Burgos, where I stayed for the night and had a reunion with members of the Ebuenga Family (the side of my paternal grandmother). My great-grandfather, Mr. Teodolo D. Ebuenga Sr, was the principal of Padre Burgos National High School till his passing in 1982. I not only saw my grand-uncle, my uncles and aunties , distant cousins, but also was able to visit and offer / light a candle of remembrance to my great-grandfather, Mr. Teodolo Ebuenga, and my great-grandmother, Mrs. Hermogena Torrero Ebuenga (both of whom were teachers/educators in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte).

When I first arrived in Padre Burgos, I visited my Lolo Nono (my grandmother's younger brother) and was brought to tears at his reaction in seeing me. He kissed me and embraced me with warm and open arms. Waiting for me were his children, and grandchildren, all of whom are relatives whom I have never seen before (or have no recollection , since i was 5 years old when I left the Philippines in 1990).

Seeing them and being with them was the life experience of a life time. A connection and reunion of family in my father's side.

My father's parents are not native of Bohol, but are Leytenos. My paternal grandfather is from Pintuyan , Southern Leyte , whereas my paternal grandmother is from Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte.

Leyte is my 2nd home-island. I am half Boholano and half Leyteno.  :)

Photo taken of me posing underneath my Uncle Allan's payag by the beach in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte. This was taken prior to my visiting of Tangka-an Beach in Padre Burgos.

This was my first time ever to visit Leyte. The land of my paternal side. I am all smiles.

Taken in August 4 , 2010. At about 10 PM.

We just arrived from Ubay, Bohol and landed in Maasin, Southern Leyte. From Maasin, we drove to Padre Burgos and had a reunion with relatives of the Ebuenga Clan. My paternal grandmother (Mrs. Maria Luz Ebuenga Lucino) was part of this clan.

I have not seen them in over 20 years, many of whom , I do not recollect due to the long absence. I fell in love with all of them and felt at home immediately. My Lolo Nono (the older , handsome gentleman) who happens to be my Lola's younger brother, kept on kissing my face and hugging me. Rubbing my beard he kept on saying, "Mora man ka sa imuhang Papa, Doy! Rico jud ka , Rico jud ka!" in reference to my Father, Engr. Rico Lucino. I was brought to tears at my Lolo Nono's presence and just being around him. His laughter and the laughter of his kids and grandkids brought a sense of belonging-ness to my heart, a feeling that i would liken to the prodigal son seeing his father and family again after a long absence.
They prepared for us a 2 meter long dalupapa (giant squid) and food.

Thank you for your kindness, and your love, Lolo Nono and family...
I do truly Love and Miss you all...
