A woman known as the "DC Madam" - who was convicted of running a high-class Washington prostitution ring - has been found hanged.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey was facing up to six years in prison when she apparently killed herself in a shed near her mother's home in Tampa, Florida.
Police said the 52-year-old left two suicide notes.
A federal jury convicted Palfrey last month of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite.
Senator David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican, was among her clients.
She was convicted of money laundering, using the mail for illegal purposes and racketeering and was due to be sentenced on July 24.
Palfrey had denied her escort service engaged in prostitution, claiming the women acted of their own accord.
The long-awaited trial ended without revealing many new details about the service or its clients.
The operation generated over two million dollars between 1993 and 2006, according to the charges.
More than 130 women worked for her over the period.
The company's clientele included a cross-section of Washington, including private and public sector officials, NASA employees, US military brass and World Bank and International Monetary Fund executives.
