Amid reports on accumulating undisposed garbage in the towns of Dauis and Panglao after Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim closed the Dampas Sanitary Landfill to users outside the city, Governor Erico Aumentado could not just sit down and relax.
The governor formally interceded on behalf of the two municipalities, calling Mayor Lim to allow the municipalities to dump their solid waste at the Dampas Sanitary Landfill, pending resolution to the issues at hand.
"It will mean a lot to our tourism industry in the province if you can extend the generosity and cooperation of the government of Tagbilaran for the sake of sustainable tourism, Aumentado stated in his letter to Lim dated October 26, 2007.
Aumentado raised concern on the undisposed garbage in the two municipalities that are starting to pile up.
"We feel this will have untold effect on our tourism industry unless sooner addressed. I know you are aware that any adverse effect on tourism in Panglao Island will be felt first by the City of Tagbilaran," Aumentado told Lim in the letter.
Reports also had it that Lim is likely to soften stand for Dauis, but stands pat against Panglao.
Early this year, Lim closed the facility to the two municipalities and other areas outside the city.
