A tragic love triangle that culminated in the murder of a Dauis policeman a year ago has indicted an incumbent councilor of the town after he was pinpointed as the suspect who allegedly drove a speeding vehicle crushing to death his rival for the love of his wife.
It was a love triangle with a tragic twist as the key players were a policeman, the wife of the suspect and the town councilor himself.
The victim was hit and bumped by a Mitsubishi Pajero driven by the suspect while the policeman was on board his motorcycle. The incident happened at the Castille Borja Bridge in Dauis while the victim was on the way to the Dauis police station. The suspect's car was running in opposite direction.
In an affidavit obtained by the Post to support a case for murder filed before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office last May 8, it said that the victim was identified as PO2 Alfonso Aranas, until his death a member of the Dauis Police Station.
Other documents obtained by the Post like the affidavits of witnesses and a Spot Report dated June 20, 2007 rendered by Pelagio Rosagaran, senior police officer of the Philippine National Police, Bohol Command, showed the suspect was identified as Bonifacio Gacayan alias Bobong and a last termer councilor of Dauis.
The same police records indicated that occupying the other side of an illicit love affair was Josephine Gacayan, wife of the Dauis councilor.
According to police investigation, Gacayan had long known the illicit relation between his wife and the Dauis policeman.
This was validated by the victim's widow. She said during a confrontation with Gacayan at the Coralandia Restaurant on June 20, 2007, the municipal councilor confided to her that he already knew that his wife was carrying a forbidden relation with her husband.
On the part of Josephine Gacayan, her body language supported the belief that she and the policeman were carrying a romantic liaison.
An instance where Josephine did not show any instance of discretion that she was madly in love with the policeman was when she was hysterical after hugging the dying policeman at the Ramiro Community Hospital.
On the part of Gacayan, he saw to it that he can be counted upon for those who were in financial need like the grieving wife of the run over victim. All in all, he gave P80,000 to the widow in two separate occasions.
