Tagbilaran Mayor Cancels Leave of Absence
« on: May 31, 2009, 06:11:29 PM »
Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim will be reporting back to work tomorrow.
A source close to the mayor confirmed the information to the Post but declined to be named saying he was not authorized to speak on the matter.
“He has decided to abort his leave because of the unfounded reports that has caused demoralization among barangay officials,” the same source revealed.
Lim reportedly was very upset at reports that he left for the United States for treatment.
“He tried to keep distance from the city while he is on leave but many concerned officials and supporters kept asking him if it was true that he is sick,” the source added.
The mayor went on leave effective May 25 in response to persistent reports that he would be placed under preventive suspension.
Lim also said he wanted to turn over the reins to Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso so he could prove his allegations of numerous anomalies at City Hall.
Even before he could assume office however, Veloso already issued a statement that the offices allegedly involved in anomalies were already sanitized.
The source said the mayor considered this an admission on Veloso’s part that he would not be able to substantiate his allegations.
Lim has consistently disputed the allegations of anomalies, insisting that these were part of a demolition campaign to drum up support for Veloso’s bid to unseat him.
According to the source, the mayor was so confident that he voluntarily went on leave to give the vice-mayor a free hand.
The mayor however decided to cut short his vacation to prove that he did not fly out of the country and that he is not sick as the reports claim he is.
“He says this is only the latest of the fabricated reports coming from one radio station and newspaper that is very critical of him,” the source added.
The mayor described the report about his foreign trip and his illness as “the height of disinformation and deception”.
“They really want me dead, not just politically but physically,” Lim reportedly declared.
The mayor said his premature return is needed to reassure barangay officials that he is very much in control and that he will not abandon them.
“Contrary to what my critics have been saying, I am not disillusioned. Neither am I burned out,” he told the source.
The mayor also expressed apprehension about reports that Veloso’s cronies have started to throw their weight around.
During his meeting with department heads last Monday, erstwhile Lim ally and now Veloso lieutenant Councilor Zenaido Rama was among those present.
“Is he a department head or is this a message that those who want to make business with City Hall under Veloso will have to deal with him?” a department head asked afterwards.
Another department head said the meeting, which took not more than five minutes, did not tackle anything new aside from the vice-mayor’s memo about his assumption.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
