Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago was “very disappointed†that Shamcey Supsup, the country’s bet in the 2011 Miss Universe, did not get the title to the point that she was planning to file a protest.
“I’m going to file a protest if possible, if there’s any legal remedy because all the fan ratings rated Miss Philippines very, very high,†Santiago told reporters on Tuesday.
“I thought it will be at least a contest between her and Ms. Ukraine but it turns out neither one made the top two positions which shows that I’m better as a senator than as a beauty consultant,†she said.
Asked if she was serious in filing the protest, Santiago laughed and said, “Well if there’s a legal remedy, I don’t think it might be taken as lacking in the fields of sportsmanship.â€
Senators Panfilo Lacson and Franklin Drilon also expressed sadness over the Supsup’s failure to bag the title.
Supsup was proclaimed third runner-up in the coronation night held in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Angolan beauty Leila Lopes won the crown.
