PNP eyes NPA in killing of ex-political detainee in BoholPolice operatives are not discounting the involvement of the New People's Army (NPA) in the killing of an ex-political prisoner in Bohol province last January 17.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Director Jefferson Soriano of the PNP Task Force USIG said the murder of Ronald Sendrijas in Tagbilaran City last month "is a classic example of how complicated some cases of alleged political violence in the provinces can get, especially when a
connection with the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA is present."
Quoting a report of Senior Superintendent Arturo Evangelista, Region 7 Police chief for Investigation and Detective Management, Soriano said local investigators are looking into the "close ties and affiliation of Sendrijas with known CPP/NPA personalities in the province."
Further, Soriano said probers are also looking into Sendrijas' alleged "involvement in at least two high-profile murder cases in Bohol including that of Bayan Provincial chair Victor Olayvar on September 7, 2006."
Sendrijas was killed by two motorcycle-riding suspects on the night of January 17 after stepping out of the Ramiro Community Hospital in Tagbilaran City.
The Karapatan group had earlier attributed the incident to the government, pointing out that Sendrijas had been a target of the police and military's vilification campaign.
The group said there were reports that he was being invited to join the mainstream government so he could provide information about other members and activities of Left-leaning organizations. - GMANews.TV
