Philippine Chief Justice Leaves Senate Court
« on: May 27, 2012, 01:53:28 PM »
By Lilybeth G. Ison

After more than three hours on the witness stand, embattled Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona on Friday left the Senate impeachment court gently, though very tired.

Corona left the Senate in the same Medical City ambulance that took him to the Senate in a convoy around 1:18 p.m. Friday.

Senate President and presiding officer Juan Ponce Enrile excused an admittedly "very, very tired" chief magistrate.

After being excused from the hearing, Corona was taken briefly to the Senate clinic. Senate Medical and Dental Services chief Mariano Blancia said the chief justice's blood pressure was normal 140/80.

"Okey na siya, walang ibang symptons. Nakauwi siya nang normal ang kanyang blood pressure (He's okay, he has no other symptoms. He left with his blood pressure normal). At least we have done our duty to him," Blancia said.

Meanwhile, at the sidelines of the impeachment trial, Corona's wife Cristina, during a break in the proceedings, walked up to her cousins -- the siblings Ana, Carmen, Isabel, Francheska and Eric Basa -- and embraced them one by one.

Corona’s daughter, Carla, also approached the siblings and hugged them. Most of them were in tears.

Cristina later took the siblings to the witness stand, where the chief justice remained seated during the break. There, Corona also embraced the Basa siblings.

Baby Nebrida, classmate and close friend of Cristina, in an interview with media, said she had advised Mrs. Corona that at this point in their lives "the fastest way to healing is to forgive."

Nebrida was the one who made the Basa-Corona reconciliation possible as both families are close to her.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Sometimes, God speaks to people by humbling them and teaching them a lesson. Perhaps, the Corona Family can learn from this situation a very important moral lesson....as for Mr. Renato Corona, despite his failings as a public figure, he can at least accept the fact that he failed in his public duty. In the end, its just money, and all of this will come to pass; what he does to reconcile with his family, and most importantly, hopefully he can come to peace with GOD and accept this lesson as a purification for the soul. Sometimes, being reprimanded and corrected is not a bad thing.

May God give strength to Mr. Renato Corona to live a better life now. And learn from this...and move on.
