InterAksyon.com reports that some bishops were asked if gays were permitted to join the Santacruzan festivities. Three bishops had different answers. The report noted: "Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez—also of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Public Affairs—
welcomes gays' participation, but only if it is a way for them to 'repent and change.'" However, if gays joining the parade is all for show, this is not appropriate because the Santacruzan is not a fashion show, but a sacred celebration of the Catholic Church)."
