 Over 300 depositors of the collapsed Pilipino Rural Bank (PRB) in Bohol now see light at the end of the tunnel on the payment of insurance for their deposits with the scheduled meeting with top Philippine Deposit Insurance Company (PDIC) officials.

  Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado arranged the meeting with PDIC Executive Vice President Imelda Singzon amd Vice President for the Comptrollership Group Geronimo Ambe at 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City.

  The depositors, led by former Tagbilaran City Mayor Jose Torralba and businessman Engr. Abdon Añora, had sought Aumentado’s intercession so that they can finally be paid.

  Aumentado had requested Singzon to particularly bring Ambe – a native of his hometown of Ubay – in order to help explain clearly PDIC’s own payment regulations and documentary requirements especially to those who have difficulty understanding Tagalog.

  Ambe in turn, arranged for two more PDIC vice presidents – Teresita Gonzales of the Receivership and Liquidation Group I, and Lilian Cerna of the Insurance Claims Group, to go with him to Bohol on February 5.

  Ambe also said he invited more PDIC officials from Cebu and Negros who have met depositors in the same predicament there to attend the Tagbilaran meeting.

   PRB had attracted depositors because of its double-your-money-in-three-years scheme.

  Some retirees, hoping to live comfortably with their pension plus interest on their deposits, invested their benefits of over a million pesos in PRB.

  Others considered the scheme a means of increasing the capital for their businesses, hence, the investment in the rural bank.

  The PDIC had taken over PRB on December 12 last year, prompting local depositors to seek help from Aumentado who they consider knows which doors to open and who holds the keys to these doors.
