There are different types of crimes. The one with Cain/Abel is of different order than when somebody robs a bank or a jewelry store...These city structures, filled with glittering things...the celfon that we carry in our hands as we walk...these are related to the crime comitted unto them. Celfon snatching, banks..these already belong to the same class of crime. Even the media globalization and the internet, some radicals would want to cease the attention of the world just to prove a point...confident that all the world will come to know them. Without global media, most forms of terrorism would have been less meaningfull as it would not gain the attention of the globe. We, the citizens, have the luxury to believe that we will progress without crime going with it...because we are just the citizens and most of us deserve certain form of encapsulation from certain harsh conditions out there in the wild. However, the rulers, whose very job is to give protection must not think naively this way. They must confront the actual conditions right here, now...and because the city is growing, many people come...by statistics alone -- mathematically it is valid to argue that progress equates with rise in crime.
I have already pointed out that there are many progressive cities all over the world that enjoy rapid economic growth, yet the people living in those cities are not horrified of fresh stories of robberies and murders right there in their own backyards.
Crimes in the Philippines, or in Bohol, to be specific, are rooted in the wickedness of the hearts of some men and women. I will not and cannot blame poverty as motivation of doing evil in society. People's wicked hearts want easy ways to extract money from others - worse by force and intimidation. Our politicians have exemplified that.
Illegal recruitment is a crime. Who are the victims of illegal recruitment? Filipinos. Who are the perpetrators of illegal recruitment? Filipinos.
Who steal money from public coffers? Filipino politicians. Who are the victims? Filipinos.
Bank robbery is a crime. Who robbed a bank? Filipinos. Who are the victims? Filipinos.
Our nation is spiritually lost. Our people are groping in spiritual darkness. This spiritual darkness has decapitated our men and women that they cannot exercise love and respect for our fellow Filipinos.
I have mentioned in my earlier post that in my whole stay in Thailand I have been enjoying the kindness and generosity of the Thai people and I never had any single problem living and dealing with Thais and other nationalities. But my peaceful, smooth stay in Thailand became miserable at one time when a Filipino from Bukidnon province, whom I accommodated in my rented apartment out of compassion, ran away my money and my personal stuff.
Who is the victim? Michael Ligalig, a Filipino. Who was the culprit? Filipino.
I rest my case.
