Priscilla,
Speaking as a clinician and to reiterate the psychology of sex, every society in this world experience this phenemenon. The United States also has an over-sexed population. It is no different to the Philippines. The only difference here is that the former, the United States, endorses contraceptive use and family planning clinics (abortion clinics), whereas the latter, the Philippines, does not. Of course we have to consider that the latter endorses and upholds strict Catholic notion of the sanctity of life.
If the United States also was predominantly Roman Catholic and endorsed a strong opposition to abortion and the use of contraceptives, then I guarantee you that the population growth trends in the United States would be equal if not greater than that of the Philippines.
I have a lot of patients that I see. If you look at the statistics on the pregnancies here in the United States, a significant amount are from teenagers. A significant amount of those end their pregnancies via abortion. Whereas in the Philippines, they do not.
Environmental and religious-social upbringing influences the direction of the pregnancies in these two societies. The United States, which is far more liberal than that of Catholic and Conservative Philippines, has adopted the culture of death. The Philippines, in contrast to today's trend, still upholds and defends the sanctity of life.
