Make Paper Cranes for Japan
Want to show your support for Japan but not sure where to start? Here is a simple and creative way to help that is accessible to people of all ages.
Students Rebuild has partnered with DoSomething.org for the Paper Cranes for Japan campaign. For each origami crane that they receive, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate $2 to Architecture for Humanity’s long-term reconstruction efforts in Japan.
There are two ways your crane can help. After you’ve made your crane (check out this video
Origami: Crane [tutorial] and visual guide [
http://www.wikihow.com/Fold-a-Paper-Crane] for instructions), you can:
Take a photo and upload it to the virtual mosaic on the Paper Cranes for Japan Facebook page, along with a message of support.
Send the crane to:
Students Rebuild
1700 7th Avenue
Ste. 116 #145
Seattle, WA 98101
(If you make more than 50 cranes, you can get a pre-paid shipping label.)
The goal of the project is to reach 100,000 submissions, which will trigger a $200,000 donation. The cranes will also represent 100 wishes for Japan since, according to legend, 1,000 paper cranes equals one wish. In addition, the cranes will be made into an art installation.
Since the earthquake and resulting tsunami, Paper Cranes for Japan has received support and positive messages from countries around the world, including New Zealand and Haiti. For more info, check out Students Rebuild and Facebook.
