A leading German firm in the operation of integrated solid waste management facilities has committed to pour in some P300-million to solve the burgeoning garbage problem in the city.
Juergen Lorenz of JL Business & Technology Consultancy, Inc. presented to residents of barangay Taloto last Monday his company's holistic waste management system which integrates recycling, waste reduction and livelihood.
The company has been tapped by the city government for the multi-million joint venture project. The city's equity will be the 10 to 12 hectare lot where the facility will be built in barangay Taloto.
For several years now, Lorenz have partnered with other local governments in promoting modern waste management systems.
It may be recalled that as early as 2006, City Mayor Dan Lim had decided to construct solid waste management facilities and totally close the present garbage dump in barangay Dampas.
The mayor also ditched the city's inclusion in the Cluster Sanitary Landfill Project in Alburquerque saying 80-percent of the waste to be disposed in the facility will come from the city.
Tagbilaran's 15 barangays generate over 100 tons of garbage daily that are dumped at the open dumpsite in Dampas.
