The Bohol Chronicle

Victims of the dreaded dengue fever is consistently on the rise with another 136 hospitalized during the past week.

As of last count Friday, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded a total of 715 hospitalized since January this year from the 615 the preceding week.

Tagbilaran City still registered the highest number of cases with a total of 286 victims, up by 57 from 229 recorded in the preceding week.

Although there is an increasing number of victims, most were immediately given medical treatment as the Department of Health (DOH) already established dengue express lanes in all government hospitals throughout the province.

No further casualty was reported.

Worst hit city barangays are Cogon, Booy, Dao and Dampas.

Cogon registered a total of 34 cases, most of which are concentrated in Upper Calceta Street with 15 victims.

Booy has a total of 31 dengue cases, Dao with 29, Dampas 20, Mansasa 12, while barangays Bool, Taloto and Lindaville has a total of 11 cases each since January.

Barangays Cogon and Dao were declared having a dengue epidemic by the DOH.

In the month of June, Tagbilaran had 65 cases recorded while it almost doubled to 127 last July.

With the onset of the rainy season, the rise of dengue victims is expected to rise steadily, according to PHO statistician Merlyn Nemenzo.

In the towns, Dauis still have the highest number of victims with 64 followed by Jagna with 56.

The PHO reported that massive "search and destroy" operations are being conducted in the city barangays and the towns.

Six of ten dengue casualties occurred in the month of July where five of which come from Tagbilaran City.

Other towns registering a high number of dengue victims are Albur with 19; Baclayon and Mabini 15; Panglao and Loboc with 13; Ubay 11; Balilihan, Carmen and Loon with 10.
