Published by www.theboholstandard.comThe National Police Commission will attempt to end the credit grabbing squabble among those responsible in the eventual arrest of the notorious Meloy Garcia robbery group.
Boholano Napolcom Region 7 Director Bernardo Calibo said he will determine first who were present in the actual operation that led to the arrest of the gang leader and five of his cohorts.
Garcia was arrested, 6:00 in the evening of August 28, together with a wounded suspect Gelvin Nuez. inside a room at the Dumaluan Beach Resort, in barangay Bolod Panglao, about 12 kilometers from the Tagbilaran City.
Earlier that day, the Meloy Garcia group held up a bank teller of the Bank of Commerce, in front of the bank’s branch office along CPG avenue in the city and took an estimated P90,000 cash.
The robbery turned out bloody when bank security guards shot it out with the robbers.
Killed on the spot was the guard escort, while two suspected robbers and two security guards were wounded and brought to a government hospital.
In a Sun.Star-Cebu report, Calibo was quoted saying, “he would be very careful since the listing will be forwarded to the office of the President for commendations.â€
The Napolcom director, was guest of the Kapihan sa PIA held at the Department of Interior and Local Government 7 office, Cebu City last week.
“In the past, there were policemen who were in the list for recommendation but they were not present in the actual operation,†he added.
The arrest of gang leader Meloy Garcia created a noise when city mayor Dan Lim insisted that, “it was the city police who effected the arrest and not Dumaluan resort guards, Panglao police personnel nor the Criminal Detection and Investigation Group (CIDG) operatives†that were also present in the operation.
Witnesses at the resort where Garcia was arrested, however, narrated that it was the resort in-house guards that detected the presence of Garcia, his girlfriend and the wounded suspect inside the room.
