City Hall Rejects Salary Increase

By the Bohol Standard

Tagbilaran City government workers must have to wait a little longer for the much-anticipated salary increase.

The good intentions of the Sangguniang Panlungsod in passing a resolution “earnestly requesting the city mayor to implement the 10% pay increase for government workers” failed to convince the mayor on the sincerity of the move.

“No I will not implement the pay increase. The move of the city sanggunian smells of so much politics,” City Mayor Dan Neri Lim declared yesterday during his popular Saturday morning radio program. Mayor’s Report.

“Such resolution carries weight that will point to me and at my expense,” the city mayor said.

He particularly slammed the authorship of the resolution which had the names of city opposition councilors Anne Mariquit Oppus and Bebiano Inting as co-authors, and further sponsored in masse by the whole council which includes Vice City Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso.

Such wage increase was ordered by Pres. Arroyo through her Executive Order No. 611, mandating all government offices and government-owned, controlled corporations to implement such increase retroactive July this year.

The city mayor said the move of the city council did not even specify where to get the funds or whether to pass another supplemental budget for the purpose.

He particularly chided Oppus, Inting who is a certified public accountant and Vice Mayor Veloso.
