Seventy-two percent of the Boholanos could hardly get rid of the illegal numbers game swertres as this game of chance has given them some gainful income, in one way or the other.

This surfaced during a random telephone text survey conducted by DYRD's top rated "Tagbilaran-By-Nite" program last Friday.

Majority of those who favored the illegal numbers game said they are being "entertained" on the thrill and excitement on the results of the game which is openly aired on television and on radio stations.

In fact, some of the respondents said that the income derived from swertres is enabling them to provide daily "baons" to their children.

The remaining 28% who called for the abolition of swertres said that since this is an illegal activity, thus, it should be terminated.

Likewise, the daily betting has caused laziness to many since they put their hopes in the gambling activity which makes one "very unproductive," Some are just idle in their homes hoping to win in the daily lottery.

Asked to comment on this, City Mayor Dan Lim who is suspected to be in close ties with some swertres financiers said that the inconsistency of government should be stopped. He cited that lotto is being legalized while the same results are being taken as the basis for the ushered swertres.

However, he denied receiving protection money even as reports said that at least two top barangay officials are swertres financiers.

Observers said that the campaign against swertres in the city is rarely noted compared to the towns which gave rise that Mayor Lim has allowed the numbers game to proliferate.

The Chronicle earlier found that the daily gross of swertres operations totals to P1.2 million with some six to 10 financiers controlling the operations province-wide.

Concerned residents question why the police can not apprehend these financiers to stop their operations here. Some sectors suspect that some policemen are receiving protection money from the swertres operators.

Persons here do have a livelihood here while playing the illegal numbers game.
In fact one radio station employees are seen playing it daily with a guy who is living on Remoldore Extension.
This station has been playing with this favorite suky for a few years now.
He looks in better health, and wears cleaner and nicer clothes.
Before he was selling dried fish in Jagna and not doing as well as he is being a a daily swertez (illegal) dealer.
certain person from their respected areas are in charge of collecting and at the same time they are familiar with the barangay and the neighbors as well.
In Manila barangays get together and play BINGO and win money it is a socail outlet as well and everyone knows what their neighbors are up to as well.

It is also illegal to not wear a motorcycle helmet as well but do you see them out there busting those violators as well?

Here there are many violators who know they can get away with just about anything here now a days.

If the city mayor does not care then why should the community?

I recall an election story that Lim said he was in cahoots with PNP Provincial SSUP. Edgardo Inking.
Everyone knows he has been trying to crack down on this illegal numbers as it leads into other crimes happening.
Could this be used as a tactic of Mayor Lim to go against SSUP. INKING?
