Bohol Police Director SSupt. Edgardo Ingking remains optimistic to bust swertres operations saying it has been significantly curtailed since he declared an all out war against the illegal numbers game.
Since Ingking ordered a massive crackdown on swertres operators last November 7, police have arrested 15 who were engaged in the illegal numbers game.
The arrests, in coordination with the chiefs of police in the municipalities and the city, sent a warning to financiers and runners as betting is observed to have remarkably gone down in the past two weeks.
Here in the city, three bigtime financiers have agreed to quit following the arrest of their runners.
City PNP chief Supt. Abner Catalla said he will hold dialogues with new barangay officials to stop swertres.
Catalla said the remaining financiers have already been identified, most of their coordinators are conducting guerilla type of operations.
According to Ingking, the results of their anti-illegal gambling drive is "positive and promising."
Most of the financiers withdraw their operations after the chiefs of police in the towns had talks with them, Ingking said.
Accoring to Ingking, he does not rely on the present accomplishments of the Bohol PNP saying that his final benchmark of determining the success of the anti swertres campaign is its eradication.
Ingking said he urged all policemen in the province to be consistent with their public pronouncement of "zero tolerance" against all forms of illegal gambling.
Aside from swertres, the PNP is also apprehending persons involved in illegal cockfighting, locally known as 'tukis'. --
