Philippine Daily InquirerPraise was heaped on Bohol police operatives and private security guards “for a job well done†in stopping robbery gang leader Casimiro “Meloy†Garcia and three others who were arrested last Tuesday after the robbery of the Bank of Commerce in Tagbilaran City.
Bankers and businessmen in Cebu and Bohol were relieved.
Chief Supt. Silverio Alarcio Jr., Central Visayas police director, said promotions would likely follow.
“I commend the team that collared Meloy Garcia and the others,†said Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council,“especially that Meloy was the leader of several heists conducted in Cebu as well as Bohol.â€
But police officials said the public should remain vigilant because other members of the gang were still at large.
“We must account for all members of the group and find out who is behind them,†said Alarcio in an interview.
He was asked if the robbery gang was busted following Tuesday’s arrest of Garcia, who was found in Dumaluan Beach Resort in Panglao Island after a shootout with security guards of the Bank of Commerce. The arrested suspects are all young men.
Garcia is 24 years old. Cresencio Reguya, whose gunshot wounds will leave him paralyzed for life, is 27. Gelvin Nuez is 19.
Police also took into custody a cousin of Garcia, Sofronio Remoreras, who drove the V-hire van used as a getaway vehicle to the beach resort in Panglao island.
