Bohol gets NNC Crown award

BOHOL just bagged another national award – this time the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (Crown) from the National Nutrition Committee (NNC).

In a letter to Gov. Erico Aumentado who also chairs the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC), Assistant Health Secretary and NNC Executive Director Maria Bernardita Flores said Bohol will be presented the Crown Award after it won the Outstanding Province in Central Visayas Region plum for 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Flores said the selection of Bohol “was based on the recommendation made by the inter-agency Regional Evaluation Team (RET), approved and endorsed by the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) to the NNC Central Office.”

Aumentado lauded the concerted efforts of the PNC members through Provincial Health Officer Reymoses CAbagnot who is Bohol ’s Nutrition Action Officer..

He said their teamwork, cooperation and leadership to shepherd the town nutrition councils to give their best as well have reaped good results for the province.

These include the Crown trophy and P100,000 cash prize for future nutrition projects to be awarded on October 15 at the Philippine International Convention Center with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo expected to present the award.

Other benefits, the governor said, are healthy children, lesser incidences of malnutrition, more nutritious food on the table and added income for the family.

Bohol ’s nutrition program includes but is not limited to mothers’ classes whereby they are taught to prepare nutritious and delicious food at reasonable budgets, backyard gardening for home consumption and sale – a pet project of the administration of Aumentado and Vice Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera for which they appropriate amounts in the main and even supplemental budgets to ensure sustainability, regular weighing of children to monitor weight gain, mass feeding, distribution of iodized salt and others.

Aumentado has asked Herrera and Cabagnot to represent him in the awarding rites as he will still be out of the country to attend another international conference.

Flores also invited the other members of the PNC to the awarding rites.
