Town officials from areas outside Bohol were recently here for a benchmarking on how to replicate the town’s best practices.
The study tour was facilitated through the different chapters of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) outside Bohol.
The group comprised of local chief executives, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members, municipal planning and development coordinators (MPDCs), SB secretaries, municipal agricultural officers (MAOs) and the focal person on ISWM and CRM from the towns of Camaroan, Camarines Sur; Libon, Alabay; Aborlan, Palawan; Victoria and Laoang, Northern Samar; Pinabacdao, Samar; Concepcion, Iloilo; Cortes, Surigao del Sur and Tandubas, Tawitawi.
Provincial FISH Project Coordinator Anecita Gulayan designed the study tour with the support of the regional and central office staff of Fisheries Improvement for Sustainable Harvest (FISH) and the assistance of Mar Quidote and Victor Orivello.
They observed the municipality’s management program on the natural resources and implementation of local development projects.
As a way of spreading the success story of this municipality, the FISH project designed the visit to help other local officials in the formulation of policies that shall facilitate replication of the project like the Coastal Resource Management (CRM), Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) and the Forest and Forestland Management (FFM).
In his welcome statement, Mayor Juanario Item took pride in the municipal government's effective implementation of his three flagship projects, attributing it to the full support of Governor Erico Aumentado, the legislative department headed by Vice-Mayor Restituto Auxtero, non-government organizations (NGOs) such as FISH Project and Seahorse, barangay officials and his constituents.
