The Bohol School Amateur Athletic Association (BSAAA), the only basketball competition in the province, which, genuine mission and vision is geared towards the development of the youth and sports, has designated a new commissioner.
Paul Yabo Calizar, a former mainstay of the Bohol Institute of Technology
International College Super cruisers and a Most Valuable Player during his prime, has been designated as the new BSAAA boss for this year.
The former "iron man" of Bohol basketball was born on November 29, 1970 in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte from parents Porferio Calizar and Dominga Yabo. But he was raised in Pook (Sta. Cruz), Baclayon as his parents migrated there sometime in 1977.
He dribbled his way to earn a college degree in Computer Science as a member of the starting five of the BIT IC Super cruisers who were then competing in a prestigious Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (CAAA).
As a player, aside from having talents, skills and abilities a Most Valuable Player, he likewise possessed the traits and qualities of a disciplined player. His former teammates and coaches were one in praising him for his positive attitude towards the game.
He married Hazel Bertumen, in 1996 with whom he had 2 kids, Pia Vanessa, 12 and Vergillisa, 10. Paul does small business for a living while Hazel is an Oveseas Filipino Worker.
As the newly designated commissioner of the BSAAA, he promises to impose a strict discipline among all the players and the team officials alike. I'm more incline in introducing new approach towards dealing with the effective system of the association, commissioner Calizar added.
Now on its 15th season, the BSAAA is getting stronger through the years because of the financial support of the sports minded and kindhearted individuals and organizations. - the Bohol Chronicle
