Pinoy bowling great Paeng Nepomuceno proved at a tournament in Australia that at the age of 50, he still had what it took to be a world champion.
At the Columbia South Pacific Classic in Australia, Nepomuceno set a new record – he won a tournament he first won 23 years ago.
More than 150 players from all over the world took part in the tournament and Nepumuceno topped them all to win the title.
In the finals Nepomuceno was up against world tenpin champion Jason Belmentoe, a 23 year old Australian.
But Nepomuceno proved that age didn’t matter in their game which he won by a margin of 70 pins with an average score of 212 throughout the tournament.
After more than 30 years in competitive bowling, Nepomuceno continues to amaze everyone by remaining on top of his game.
This is the second win for Nepomuceno at the South Pacific Classic which he first won in 1984.
The victory is the Pinoy champion’s 118th career win – the most number of titles won by an individual player in the history of bowling.
This year, Nepomuceno will compete in 2 more tournaments in Singapore and Guam.
Aside from these competitions, he has a full schedule as ambassador of the US bowling congress.
Nepomuceno says staying fit is the secret to his success.
At 50 he feels as strong as ever, competitive against anyone, even against those half his age.
