PGMA International Open Chess Tournament: $40,000 at stake

The world’s top woodpushers converge in the 2nd President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Cup International Open Chess Tournament on Nov. 21 to 28 at the Deputy Free Festival Mall at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila.

Aside from Filipino masters around 100 foreign nationals from 14 different countries are expected to join the tournament, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

Countries that are expected to send delegations are China, Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, Iran, India, Iraq, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, Chinese Taipe, Singapore, Jordan and Papua New Guinea.

The event will play nine rounds using the Swiss System format with a time control of 90 minutes.
A total of $40,000 is at stake with the top 32 players receiving cash prizes.

The champion will get $6,000 while second and third placers will get $5,000 and $4,000, respectively.
