For this fight alone, the one against Juan Manuel Marquez on March 15 in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao could earn as much as what he got in three fights with Erik Morales.

"This will be the biggest purse for Manny – ever," said Pacquiao’s legal adviser, Franklin Gacal Monday, the day the Filipino megastar was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles to train.

"The exact amount I cannot divulge. What I can say is that Manny is very happy," he said.

Gacal made the statement amid reports that Pacquiao’s purse for the WBC super-featherweight title clash with Marquez, set at Mandalay Bay, could reach as much as $8.5 million.

This is equivalent to a mind-boggling P348 million.

If this happens, then Pacquiao will surpass his earnings in three fights with Morales, the first in March of 2005 ($1.750 million), then in January ($2 million) and November ($3 million) of 2006.

Pacquiao received something like $3 million for fighting Marco Antonio Barrera last October.

"This will be Manny’s biggest purse simply because we are expecting more pay-per-view buys in this fight. This is a world title fight and we’re expecting a big jump in the PPV sales," he said.

"Bob Arum said he’s looking at 500,000 pay-per- view buys for this title fight, and that’s achievable," said Gacal, adding that the fight contract for the Marquez rematch is all ironed out.

Pacquiao’s three fights with Morales netted a million PPV buys, and the recent one against Barrera close to 350,000 hits.

Pay-per-view for the coming fight is pegged at $49.95 each, and 500,000 buys would translate to almost $25 million. Fifty percent of the amount goes directly to HBO, which handles the sales.

The rest will be divided, not evenly of course, among the fighters in the card, and promoters Top Rank and Golden Boy. This does not include a million dollars more in gate receipts and merchandise.

Pacquiao, a Philboxing.com article added, should get the lion’s share of the amount, or at least 60 percent. And counting his earnings on TV rights in the Philippines, raking in $8.5 million is not really impossible
