With still a little more than two months to go before his next title defense, IBF and IBO flyweight champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. is raring to go back in training at the world-class ALA Gym in Cebu shortly.
Nicknamed “Filipino Flash,†Donaire breezed into town over the weekend from Manila amid a warm welcome from his legion of fans here. After a motorcade from the city airport, the dual champion dropped by his favorite radio station dyRD/ZD and thanked his fans for their support.
He was accompanied by his mother Imelda and fiancée Rachel Marcial, a Filipino-American Taekwondo titlist. His father-trainer Nonito, Sr. could not make the trip as he was still in Manila.
During the same interview, the Talibon, Bohol-born Donaire’ confirmed that he will defend his titles for the second time against Australian Hussein Hussein in a grudge 12-round showdown in Dubai, UAE on April 4.
He likewise inform that ALA boy Donnie Nietes will see action on the undercard to defend his WBO minimum-weight crown against Columbian Daniel Reyes in another 12-round battle. RP bantamweight kingpin Michael Domingo will also see action, Donaire added.
