For Juan Manuel Marquez: “It’s no longer about money. It’s about Manny.â€
Stressing he’s not begging for a rematch with Filipino tormentor and new World Boxing Council super featherweight champ Manny Pacquiao, Marquez said he feels it’s the Filipino ring icon’s obligation to grant him a third fight owing to the close results of the first two.
The first fight in 2004 ended in a draw while Pacquiao took the title away from Marquez by split decision on March 15 in Las Vegas.
Interviewed by GMA-7 Saksi’s Chino Trinidad before he and his party left for Las Vegas last night, Marquez said the people deserve Pacquiao-Marquez III.
And Marquez said he’s willing to accept any amount under any terms and conditions just to have another crack at Pacquiao, who, however, is bent on moving up in weight to challenge WBC lightweight titlist David Diaz on June 28 also in Las Vegas.
Marquez, however, clarified that he doesn’t consider Pacquiao a personal enemy.
Apart from trying to provoke Pacquiao into giving him a rematch, Marquez was also supposed to do a commercial with Pacquiao.
Last-minute hitches, however, forced its cancellation Tuesday, according to sources.
Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is said to be disappointed by the attempt of Marquez and his handlers in trying to forge another fight with Pacquiao.
“It borders a little on the pathetic,†Arum told Michael Marley of Boxingconfidential.com.
