After staying in the Top 10 for a couple of weeks, Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao has slipped to 26th in the ongoing online voting for TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list.
As of Monday afternoon, Pacquiao has garnered a whopping 10,994, 215 in total votes – the second highest among the 203 finalists – but with a relatively low average rating of 19.
The pound for pound kingpin, who reached as high as 6th place early in the voting, has been overtaken by NBA star Kobe Bryant as the highest-ranking sports personality in the list. Bryant now occupies ninth with 1, 269,103 total votes but a high average rating of 36th.
TIME’s annual 100 list aims to see how the world's leading personalities in government, science, technology and the arts stack up against one another.
The respected magazine has named 203 candidates for its 2009 roster and Pacquiao was the only one from the Philippines and the sport of boxing to make it to the list of finalists.
TIME has recognized Pacquiao’s stunning demolition of Oscar De La Hoya last year and how he makes the entire Philippines stop – and the crime rate down – every time he fights. Pacquiao’s downside, according to TIME, has been his planned entry into politics, a move that displeases lots of fans. - GMA News
