People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao had to cut short his supposed vacation here in Bohol and fly to New York to receive the prestigious “Fighter of the Year Award†from a group of American sportswriters.
The boxing icon, accompanied by wife Jinkee and their children Emmanuel Jr., 8; Michael Stephen, 7; and Mary Divine Grace, 2, arrived here at the Tagbilaran City Port last Friday at around 10 in the morning from Cebu City.
Pacquiao and family were supposed to spend a private vacation in one of the resorts in Panglao together but the boxing champion was called by Malacañang to oblige him to receive the prestigious award in New York, USA.
Pacquiao’s coach, Freddie Roach, is also an awardee and will join him at the awards night.
“Pacquiao is receiving the award for the second consecutive year,†Michael Konz bared in an interview.
But before he boarded his 5 p.m. flight last Friday at the City Airport, the boxing champ was kind enough to oblige for photo opportunities with fans.
Pacquiao and his wife were mobbed for about 30 minutes at the airport by fans.
Even though the couple had to cut short their vacation here, the three Pacquiao kids are still enjoying the break at a Panglao resort.
The boxing champ is slated to be back immediately upon his arrival from the United States to pick up his children who are enjoying a grand vacation in the province.
