President Gloria Macapagalâ€“Arroyo raised from P10.5 million to P15 million the cash pot for the gold medal that Team Philippines will win in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The President made the announcement during the courtesy call of Team Philippines on her at Malacanangâ€™s Heroes Hall.

An Olympic gold medal would be first for the Philippines. The country has been participating in the World Games for 84 years, or since 1924, but has come up with only nine medals, none of them gold.

The Philippine Olympic Commission had earlier announced that the athlete who wins the first Philippine Olympic gold will receive P10.5 million, but the President added P4.5 million, to make it P15 million.

The President also gave $1,000 allowance to each of the athletes.

In this yearâ€™s Olympic Games in Beijing from Aug. 8 to 24, the Philippines is sending 15 athletes who will compete in eight sports disciplines: boxing, taekwondo, shooting, archery, diving, swimming, athletics, and weightlifting.

Reigning World Boxing Council lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao was appointed by the President as the countryâ€™s special Olympics envoy and flag-bearer during the parade of nations.

I wish they will use that money to train more athletes! kanang rowing Which i knew when i was in the Phils nga naa tay mga maayong mga rowing teams, unsa naman diay gibuhat sa atong mga kabatan-onan?

hehe..a ate as what i answered before..ang mga kabataan run, nanubag nalang ug tawag..hihi

btaw te. kulang jud ang motivation and facilities dre.. and mahal man gud .. if gusto ka ug venue nga libre ra ang badminton. adto nalang sa gawasa city hall, capitol or sa park.. where in dili proper cause in-door baya na.. intawn paliron ra sa hangin ang shuttle..

i've been a badminton player since my highschool freshmen days. the really good and dedicated players never had the chance to develop or maintain it, cause badminton courts, and training were costly.. luoy lang ko nila. ang governernment or school anha ra mu sponsor for training stuff 1 week before the competition.. lol!

they only get the chance to improve further if like ma draft sa manila universities OR if naa jud sila own money to pay for trainors, and competitions..

ako? ni shift sa billiard..these days? sa ALSA baso.. (ahem-ahem)hehe..lol

maoni naka pait sa atong governo kay asa aran lang intawn ug money kung makadughit ug gold kabalo sila murag mo dughit intawn sa buwan ang mga athletes, kung ang 15 millions kung gihatag nalang pag training dako pag posibilidad..

Unfortunately hindi kasama ang wushu sa official Olympic sport. Parang exhibition lang ata.

Yeah, Willy Wang won God in Wushu but it was only Olympic demonstration thus his gold would not count in the regular medal standing.

ambot nalang aning pilipinas murag na politica sad sa olympics naay mga sport nga pwedi maka gold, like bowling pero murag wala na apil, billards wala sad, like wushu demonstration wala sad, 2nd is yman sa sport na boxing nga dili man pwedi ang mga professional? nga sa uban sport like tennis, basketball puro man mga profesional ang nangapil.. bisan ug si bom bom nalang unta ang gi represent pwedi na.

Sakto ka lolong. Mas dako pa siguro ug professional fee ang mga coaches & official kay sa athlete. Mga dagko raba ug tiyan. Dapat sila ang good leaders by example sa ilang mga athlete nga fit ilang lawas. Mo uban ba kaha ni sila ug jogging sa ilang mga athlete or mo tawag lang ug cell phone ug magpakita lang 3 months before the olympics.

then wala man pod apil ang bowling og billiards sa event. Ang billiards

Sa olympic boxing, since the rulling is amateur, dili ang kusog sa suntok ang basehan sa score, pero ang number of hits. Bisan hinay ang suntok basta mi sulod, mao na ang gi ihap sa scoring. Sa amateur boxing, speed ang importante.

Kanang sipak takraw di ba kita man ang nag imbento ana nga game unya walay nag champion nga pinoy. Lupig man ta sa Indonesia ug Thailand.
