Basketball Association of the Philippines national office (BAP) appointed Engr. Robert T. Rio, the administrator of the Grace Christian School, to assume the leadership of the newly created position of Provincial Director of its local chapter.

The appointment came after BAP have received the endorsements from the local BAP and its affiliated league - organization members in Region VII which are the stakeholders of the national governing body for basketball. They are the Bohol Schools Amateur Athletic Association (BSAAA); Bohol Professionals Basketball League (BPBL); and the Bohol Basketball Association (BBA).

Further endorsements for Rio came from BAP National Commissioner for Referees - Technical Commission; and chairman of the BAP Accreditation/Membership Commission.

And as such Engr. Rio is tasked to coordinate with the members of the BAP Provincial Chapter and its Commissioners, responsible for training, examination, and qualification of our provincial referees, technical assistants, supervisors, instructor, and commissioners as well as preparing them for provincial, regional, and national competitions for men's and women's basketball, including all matters concerning the application of the Official Basketball Rules.

Prior to his appointment, Rio had been greatly involved in sports development, participating in the Milo Olympic, and competing in the BSAAA and the BPBL.

Bobby, as he is fondly called, was born in Manila on Dec. 22, 1957 from parents Dr. Nelson D. Rio and the former Fe Hernandez Tormo. He finished his elementary studies at the College of the Holy Spirit (Now Holy Spirit School) in 1969.

He enrolled at the Bohol National High School in his first year as high school but in the proceeding year his father was contracted to work as emergency physician in the City of Pasadena. And at the age 13, events dictated his transfer to Temple City High School, in Southern California, U.S.A. where he pursued his high school studies. But in his senior year he came home and enrolled at the Divine Word College (now Holy Name University).

He earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bohol and became an engineer in 1983.

He married his long time girl friend, Trinidad Ebsolo-Wong with whom they have three children; Cecile Faith, 21 who is nurse, Charis Faith, 19 a third year Special Education (BSSPED) student, and Robert Jr., 18 a third year Electronic and Communications Engineering (BSECE) student.

The task is not new to him because he has been actively involved in all kind of sports development. With his enthusiasm and interests to we can expect basketball to grow more in this part of the country.

BAP Bohol Chapter has all praises for the newly appointed Provincial Director and they welcome him with open arms. - the bohol chronicle

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
