WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title holder Czar Amonsot will undergo another round of MRI and neuro tests today in one of Cebu’s finest hospitals to determined if he is physically and mentally fit to continue his boxing career.

In a weekend interview with this writer, Amonsot’s mother Miguel said her son was in Cebu City since the Sinulog festivity after a call from the ALA Boxing Gym and to attend boxing-related functions. Pending results of the examination, Czar continues training at the ALA gym.

The 22-year-old fighter from Bool district, this city has been indefinitely suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) after his failed attempt to wrest the title from world champ Michael Katsidis in a 12-round grueling fight in Las Vegas, July last year. He was advised by his doctors to rest for six months but a freak accident at home could mean a year-long rest.

Dr. Debra Nelson of a noted Las Vegas hospital where Amonsot and Katsidis shared a room after the fight, earlier advised Amonsot to rest for one year to “perfect heal” his head injury.

Members of the Amonsot family are praying hard for Czar’s early recovery. “It’s up to the Almighty to give Czar another chance to continue his chosen career or hang up his gloves for good,” Miguela added in vernacular.
