Boxing match at the City Square involving MINORS
« on: October 31, 2009, 07:51:36 PM »
There was a boxing match (complete with boxing ring, equipment, players, and referee) at the City Square, formerly known as the Agora, an hour ago (Oct. 31, 2009 6:00 PM) that involved children NOT YET OF AGE 13. Of course, they had headgears, boxing gloves, and water, but is this allowed? Personally, I don't like boxing because it is just like sabong or cockfighting except the chicken are humans, and in this case children.

I think there is an authority who should supervise this kind of match. Social welfare, maybe? Koddi, Doy unsa man ang imong ikasulti?

I still don't agree to holding it. Those are minors, for goodness' sake. We all know that boxers' bodies get more worn in their old age (if they even reach old age), and they're already starting to ruin the bodies of 10-12 year old kids?

If now sinasabong nila ang mga bata, sa susunod, tulad ng manok, ang bata na ang kakainin?

People are hungry, these minors earn money to feed the family, of course as a sport this is no joke.

Won't that count as child labor or child abuse?

I am sure they got parental consent, otherwise there will be a big trouble.

that's amateur boxing if there are headgears involve. normally schools from elementary up to highschool put up boxing stable. they bring their boxers to meets and other boxing events sanctioned by ABAP.

IMHO, i think it is already child abuse. Delicado ni ang age sa bata; especialidad ang age sa 10-16 years kai ning develop pa ang neural structures sa bata. Growing pa man ang brain and every brain injury received equates to loss of neurons, which is irreversible. Excessive damage can lead to irreversible brain damage, cognitive alteration, as well.

I am completely and vehemently against this.

If that boxing match was supervised by ABAP (Amateur Boxing Association of the Phils) then it's an authorized and supervised match, otherwise, it's a different story.

nobody can't put  up a boxing match whether amateur or professional without any supervision from an authorized agency. for the amateur events it's ABAP with the guidance of GAB while for the pro, it's GAB since they are the ones giving licenses to the pro boxers and the same time giving them clearances to fight abroad.

it's not only in the philippines that amateur boxing is done. all countries are doing this but of course with proper rules and guidelines that are given by AIBA who is the world governing body for amateur boxing. AIBA classified the boxers using their age. the 3 categories are:
1. elite boxers - men and women boxers between the age of 17-34.
2. youth boxers - boys and girls boxers between the age of 17 to 18.
3. junior boxers - boys and girls boxers between the age of 15 to 16.

in europe, an amateur boxer must be 11 years old however there is no age limit or requirement as to when you are going to start training. when a boxer reaches 17, the boxer becomes a senior boxer. by the time a boxer reaches 34, he will no longer be allowed to box. just take note that in RP, indonesia, thailand and other asian countries the boxer even at the tender age of 16 can turn pro. only in the US, GRB, AUS, CAN and some other european countries required boxers to be 18 yrs old to become professional.

take note, boxing is a sport just like other contact sports such as taekwondo, judo, karatedo and muay so it's not about sabong thing. in contact sports, everyone must have sparring or contact practice.

by the way AIBA is headed by dr. ching-kuo wu of Chinese Taipie as it's elected 6th president since november 5, 2006 up to present.
