The second Asia Cup Kabaddi Tournament started Thursday with seven teams participating in the event in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore.

According to Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF), the seven participating teams have been divided in two pools. India, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have been placed in Pool A while Pool B consists of Pakistan, Iran, Nepal and Indonesia.

All the foreign teams except Indonesia have arrived in Pakistan to participate in this mega event scheduled to be held from Nov. 1 to 5 at the Punjab Stadium, Lahore.

Afghanistan and Nepal kabaddi teams arrived on Tuesday and the teams from India, Sri Lanka and Iran landed on Wednesday while Indonesian team is scheduled to arrive Thursday.

Earlier, eight teams were scheduled to compete in the tournament but Thailand backed out of the competition due to some reservations.

Two top teams from each pool will progress to the semifinals to be played on Nov. 4 followed by the final and play-off for the third place on Nov. 5.

PKF has allocated a cash prize of Rs1.5 million (15,790 US dollars) for the winning team while the runners-up and third position-holder squads will receive cash prizes amounting to 10,526 dollars and 5,263 dollars respectively.

On Wednesday evening, Pakistan announced its 16-member squad with Musharraf Javed as captain of the team in the event.

The tournament will be inaugurated Thursday with an exhibition match between arch-rivals, Pakistan and India.

According to PKF secretary Rana Sarwar, Pakistan is also providing all the participating teams with free travel tickets and lodging.
