A pre-Olympics trip to Vancouver

At the Vancouver city center stop on the Canada line, you're greeted with the biggest Canadian flag I've ever seen! They do seem very proud to be hosting the games.

I drove up to Vancouver on Saturday to pick up my tickets from the CoSport will call office. Good news is that the office was easy to find, and there was plenty of parking. The lady I talked to said it was probably worth coming up before the start of the games, since they anticipate much longer lines during the weekend.

The Canadian Border Patrol gave me some problems as soon as I mentioned the word "Olympics". Almost immediately, the agent started asking me very detailed questions about why I was going to the Games, what events, how much, and then he sent me inside for an "immigration exam." I still don't really know what that is, but there were two agents waiting for me inside the building to escort me to another agent who asked me questions about my employer, how long I've worked there, and whether I had legitimate tickets. This was the only time I've ever been stopped at the Canadian border — and I still don't know what they were looking for.

The Olympic Superstore is located on Granville St in the heart of downtown Vancouver. All sides of this building are covered in pictures of Canadian athletes participating in the games.

I also went to the Olympic Superstore in the Hudson Bay Company department store on Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver. They had a huge selection of official merchandise. Be prepared for massive crowds. This place was so packed it was hard to move, and the lines to pay were ridiculously long. It still baffles me that people were upset that they could only pay with cash or a Visa card. I mean, come on people, haven't you heard Morgan Freeman tell you that Visa is the only credit card accepted at the Olympic Games?

The Russians had a huge presence at the downtown superstore, and lots of other posters around the city. The 2014 Winter Games will be held in Sochi, Russia.

The trains look like they are preparing for a huge onslaught of people, with added queue lines and such, but there didn't appear to be an increase in the number of ticket vending machines. I could see that being a problem. They had ticket checkers at all the stops I went to. I don't know if they always do that, but it looks like they're active
