CONTROVERSIAL TELEVISION host Willie Revillame was cleared once and for all by the Department of Justice of criminal liability for the deadly stampede at the Pasig City Philsports Arena (formerly Ultra) in 2006 before the showing of the popular noontime show “Wowowee.â€
Acting Justice Secretary Alberto Agra Friday said he affirmed the decision of former Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez to exclude Revillame (Wilfredo Revillame in real life) from among those charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple counts of homicide and serious physical injuries for the death of 71 fans of the show and 400 others.
“There was no reason for me to overturn (Gonzalez’s) decision since the host had no direct or indirect participation in the stampede. There is no proximate cause in his being the host of ‘Wowowee’ in the stampede that ensued in Ultra,†Agra told reporters .
