The Association of Writers and Radio Announcers Foundation, Inc., (AWRAFI), the Bohol Literary Arts Circle (BLAC) and the Lubas sa Dagang Bisaya, Inc. (Ludabi), Metro Tagbilaran-Bohol Chapter, have launched the 2nd Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Memorial Literary Awards for Poem Writing, J. Ning Romea Memorial Literary Awards for Essay Writing and the Bob M. Mejorada Memorial Literary Awards for Short Story Writing.

Pres. Garcia was known as the Prince of the Bisayan Poets while J. Ning Romea was renowned as a feature writer of the Bohol Chronicle. Mejorada, on the other hand, was well known for his published short stories.

The guidelines of the contests are the following:

1.The contests are open to all except the members of the committee on awards. Officers of AWRAFI and BLAC are disqualified from joining the English category and officers of the Ludabi are disqualified from joining the Bisayan category.

2.All entries must be typewritten or encoded through the computer, double-spaced using short bond papers. Each entry must be produced in four (4) copies.

3.Essay writing entries (English and Bisayan categories) must not be less than 300 words but not more than 500 words.

4.Poem writing entries (English and Bisayan) must not be less than five (5) stanzas but not more than fourteen (14) stanzas.

5.Short story writing entries (English and Bisayan) must not be less than four (4) pages but not more than ten (10) pages.

6.An entry must have a title and it must not bear the name and address of the contestant. However, the complete name and address of the participant and the title of the entry must be written on a small piece of paper placed in a small sealed envelope. The small sealed envelope must be placed in a large envelope together with the entry which bears the title only.

7.The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and unappealable. The Committee on Awards of AWRAFI, BLAC and Ludabi shall choose the Chairman, Vice Chairman and a Member of the Board of Judges of the contest.

8.The criteria for the judgment of the entries shall be as follows:
Organization (Unity, Coherence, Emphasis, Grammar) – 50%
Relevance - 25%
Style - 25%
Theme of the contest will revolve around truth and accountability.

9.Prizes for both English and Bisayan categories are P1,000.00 plus Gold Medal for the 1st Prize; P700.000 plus Silver Medal for the 2nd Prize and P500.00 plus Bronze Medal for the 3rd Prize. Consolation prize winners will receive P200.00 each and a certificate of appreciation.

10.The deadline for the submission of entries will be on October 18, 2008.

11.Entry fee for all categories is P20.00. All entries must be submitted to:
