The word moron is the most recent of the three and it originates in the U.S.A. around the turn of the century. Of the three moron would be the most competent, with the intelligence of a child between the age of eight and twelve. The word imbecile is older and formed from Latin I think, this denotes a person of limited intelligence but having the ability to function in small tasks, preferably supervised, at a child's level say three to eight. The word idiot would denote the least intelligent of the three, an idiot functioning below a three year old childs capacity. These terms are obsolete and frankly offensive, even if applied correctly to individuals of limited intelligence. The ranking of the intelligent quotient is subjective as each day may bring different results but for this purpose it could be ranked at 80 for the moron, perhaps 55 for the imbecile, and the idiot would unlikely be able to score 30. -- drampor, http://answers.yahoo.com/
