Filipino inventor develops radiation shield gadget
« on: April 06, 2011, 06:14:10 AM »

A Filipino inventor has developed a handy radiation shield gadget which he claims cannot only detect radiation at home but also ward off this deadly atmospheric pollutant.

The inventor, Rod Brutas, said he invented the anti-radiation device in 2003 but lack of funds and support prevented him from going into mass production.

He said he is looking for a financier, domestic or foreign, to bank roll in the mass production of his invention at a time when the Philippines and the rest of the global community are being threatened with radioactive contamination from Japan’s leaking nuclear power plant.

Brutas, a born-again Christian pastor, describes his invention as “God’s gift to me and I thank the Lord for giving such talent in the field of invention.”

“I’m ready to share my God-given knowledge to the Filipinos and all humanity,” he said.

The gadget, which is similar in size with that a mobile phone, can be carried around anywhere, anytime, Brutas said.

He demonstrated to this writer how his radiation shield device works. The demonstration was held at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Taguig City Tuesday.

During the demonstration, Brutas held in his hand a small antenna that sways sideways, tracking down any radiation presence inside the room.

After a few seconds, the antenna points to his right, an indication the device had detected small amount of radiation which Brutas said “came from the lighted fluorescent bulbs.”

He said appliances such as computers, television sets and fluorescent bulbs emit some amount of radiation.

“But once you have the device called radiation shield, radiation is contained once the device points to the left,” Brutas said.

Brutas’ invention has been dormant for over seven years now but the recent nuclear accidents in Japan following an earthquake and tsunami have sent global scare of radioactive fallout.

For one, the damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant has taken an alarming possible breach of radioactive contaminated water in the area but could surge beyond the territorial waters of Japan.

Reports said that radioactivity was recorded at 1,250 times higher than normal with the dumping of large amounts of potentially corrosive seawater onto the reactors.

The radiation shield device invented by Brutas may yet be the ultimate solution of protecting from any radiation from Japanese reactors damaged by the recent earthquake and tsunami that hit the Land of the Rising Sun.

Despite some signs of hope in the past week at Japan’s troubled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant, conditions have taken an increasingly alarming turn, with a possible breach at one of the reactors and highly radioactive water found leaking from that and two other reactors.

Daghan na bitaw kog nadunggan nga maayong inventions sa mga Pinoy: ligid sa trak-trak pag-adto sa buwan, a car engine nga di na mogamit ug gasolina, etc, unya kini napod, anti-radiation device: pero hangtud karon pa wa man gehapon ma accepted or ma recognize si Noypi, ni makadswat ug Nobel Prize for solving a major world problem, hehehehe. I wish tinuod ni. O di ba kaha pod delusional ning atong mga imbentor (LoL). Just wondering... maminaw kaha tas mga eksperto sa TB kay daghan baja pod NVEN2R-minded deri  ;D
