With the continued research into the evolution of music, and the 20th century archaelogical discoveries of ancient musical instruments, we are now able to learn that music dates as far back as the dawn of man itself. In its earliest form of chants and percussive rhythms, music throughout the ages rapidly developed into the very essence of life itself. The discovery of musics overwhelming power of emotive expression embraced many cultures, and by the death of Christ, had evolved with the worlds first cultural inhabitants.
Although you could easily classify the earliest style of music as 'world', later made way for a different kind of contemporary influencethe first recognised however is referred to as medieval music. Encompassing almost a thousand years up until the middle of the 11th century, medieval music throughout this period further developed much of its world and folk influences, yet .
With the birth of Christianity and other forms of religion, this gradually dominated the development of contemporary music throughout the latter part of the 10th century. The turning point being the transformation and experimentation of religious based masses and hymns
