Costliest Material to Make at $62.5 trillion per gram

Yes folks, its not Matter but Antimatter :o. The concept fuel of the future, used by Star Trek Enterprise.

Scientists claim antimatter is the costliest material to make. In 2006, Gerald Smith estimated 250 million dollars could produce 10 milligrams of positrons (equivalent to $25 billion per gram); and in 1999 NASA gave a figure of $62.5 trillion per gram of antihydrogen. This is because production is difficult (only a few antiprotons are produced in reactions in particle accelerators), and because there is higher demand for the other uses of particle accelerators. According to CERN, it has cost a few hundred million Swiss Francs to produce about 1 billionth of a gram (the amount used so far for particle/antiparticle collisions).

Several NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts-funded studies are exploring whether it might be possible to use magnetic scoops to collect the antimatter that occurs naturally in the Van Allen belt of the Earth, and ultimately, the belts of gas giants like Jupiter, hopefully at a lower cost per gram.

Antimatter is also the most difficult to contain because when in contact with matter, both will annihilate, turning into energy in a form of gamma rays. Current use of antimatter is the PET Scanner (Positron Emission Tomography), used to detect brain tumors.

Pero aside from gamma ray radiation, this will be the cleanest and most efficient source of fuel because it is 100% efficient. As per CERN, a kilo of this fuel could run your car for 100,000 years non-stop or could supply electricity to the whole United States for one year.

Ang property sa antimatter kung imong sagolan ug matter like paper or stone mo annihilate ni siya or ma hanaw pero ma himong energy. So posible kadtong science fiction nga back to the future nga ang papel iyang gi himong fuel sa iyang sakyanan kay kung mo contact sa antimatter ang papel mahimong energy.

Ang problema ani kay ang antimatter is almost non-existent sa atong universe. Na create lang ni sa laboratory unya naay gamay na amount sa atong solar system mga pila ka kilo lang.

I've read into this before and reading your post again, Mr. Ferniz, reminded me of the ample opportunities in alternative energy. Minute gamma radiation is permissible considering we are already bombarded everyday by devastating UV radiation.

Gamma Rays are used in most medical scanning equipment nowadays. It has been beneficial in neoplasm management (brain, kidney, bone, breast, prostate, etc.)

I heard antimatter in "Angels and Demons" movie of Tom Hanks{good movie by the way}.I hope that whoever country has enough of this first would use for energy.If they are secretly wants this for antimatter bomb,we are all doomed...

quite interesting indeed. Or as they put it , "The God Particle"  :D

They have research labs in major universities, most atomic spectroscopy laboratories have the basis of this technology.

An example:


They collide two atoms at the speed of light and create unfathomable amounts of energy, which produces millions of subprotons per atom smashed. I did read an article way back in regards to using this technology to fuel human ambitions to colonize new worlds; NASA has invested into this research.

Courtesy of my 10 year old daughter's science research.

Antimatter is currently the only known possible fuel which enables a starship to travel at near the speed of light, then to conserve fuel they will use solar sails. At this speed, a starship could reach 4-5 years to our nearest group of stars (Proxima Centauri & the binary Alpha Centauri). When a man travels at such high speed, his time slows down making him younger than his generation when he comes back to earth. These facts I think is used by the movie Avatar.

The problem is there is non of this stuff on earth except small amounts artificially created at the big doughnut particle accelerator.

I got it Lorenzo. God's wisdom and power is indeed infinite.

Scientist can only theorized that, at in the early stage of the universe, there were equal amounts of matter and antimatter. Then, annihilation occurs almost simultaneously that after a second, what remains in our present universe is all made of matter. There was asymmetry of slightly higher quantities of matter that made antimatter disappeared almost completely. This is I think creation explained in science. With this, it is very possible to create a universe in just a week. This is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of physics.

Yes, indeed, Mr. Ferniz. It is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in science.

I am sure your son has played the video game called "HALO" , which involves this slip-space stream technology that uses the basis of technology as the fuel for human galactic imperialism. It is antimatter technology (atom smasher) that will be utilized to fuel space-ship travel and massed migration of human populations to habitable new worlds that can host human life.

In the video game, which actually produced 5 novels that follows the plot of the video game and fills in the questions left in the game , it explains that slip-space technology and antimatter technology was used to colonize the inner planets and the outer planets , all of which were part of the Imperial Arm of Earth under the command of the UNSC (United Nations Space Command).

After reading all 5 novels and playing the 3 video game series, I was left wanting. One is left to believe that such technology is indeed possible and that such human migration --is--indeed possible.

I notice one thing about our species--it is our driven need to explore new worlds and that the need to explore and expand was the basis for producing new technology to augment and support such an expansionist project.

Human galactic colonization of new worlds? Is it really possible? I like to think so.

Afterall, we already conquored gravity by sending man into the heavens. And predict the weather patterns to a degree.
We have conquored the atom and harnished it as a force for destruction (atom bombs).
Now we need to use the atom for a force of good; a force of unfathomable energy that would quench our species' need for energy.
