CALGARY, ALBERTA (PRWEB) JUNE 20, 2019

As reported by the Washington Post, on June 18, 2019, Canada declared a climate emergency in the House of Commons [Vote Number 1366, Government Motion Number 29], which Friends of Science Society says is based on faulty science, referring to their “Climate Change Your Mind”report, issued April 30, 2019.

The declaration follows the release of the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) report which shows carbon taxes would have to rise to $102/t by 2030 to meet Paris GHG reduction targets, a shocking figure which the federal Liberal government denies. Robert Lyman, Ottawa energy policy consultant and former public servant and diplomat has written a new report entitled “The Stakes are Too High to be Tricked by the Numbers” on PBO findings.

Lyman writes: “The real issue is not about the numbers. It is about whether Canadians should inflict upon themselves immense costs to slightly reduce emissions in a world in which global emissions rise inexorably every year due to trends in other countries. The stakes, in terms of our costs and standard of living, indeed perhaps our continued existence as a Confederation, are far too high for us all to be tricked by the numbers.”

On June 17, 2019, Professor Ross McKitrick of the University of Guelph also issued an open letter to parliamentarian Lisa Raitt, who was caught in the cross-fire of the ‘climate mob’ following an innocent retweet of a McKitrick article in the Financial Post of June 7, 2019. McKitrick deconstructs some of the conflated statements of extreme weather and climate change made by elected officials that are never publicly challenged, even through the evidence shows the officials are wrong.

The ‘climate emergency’ declaration also coincides with the release of Canada’s Expert Panel on Sustainable Finance report of June 14, 2019 which proposes a plan to shift to clean energy. LINK: canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/climate-change/expert-panel-sustainable-finance.html

The David Suzuki Foundation's report, “Zeroing in on Emissions, Canada’s clean power pathways – a review” of May 29, 2019, seems to promote much of the Sustainable Finance panel’s perspectives. Friends of Science Society has issued a rebuttal to the Suzuki Foundation, entitled “Shocking Realities: Electrification and Decarbonization”which uses real world examples to show the Suzuki proposals are not in the realm of reality, and would simply add to Canada’s dangerous economic policies and cause further energy chaos.

Friends of Science says that declaring a 'climate emergency' only frightens the public and is contrary to scientific evidence. According to many scientists today, the causes of climate-change are mostly natural, mainly driven by the dominant direct and indirect forces emanating from the sun interacting with earth’s oceans and atmosphere.

About

Friends of Science Society is an independent group of earth, atmospheric and solar scientists, engineers, and citizens who are celebrating its 16th year of offering climate science insights. After a thorough review of a broad spectrum of literature on climate change, Friends of Science Society has concluded that the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2).
