hydrocephalus is the diagnosis of this condition.
the pathogenesis is the overaccumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the meninges and ventricles of the brain. the cause of this is due to a massed lesion either in the foramen of monroe or the sylvian aqueduct, causing the classical signs of non-communicating hydrocephalus. the undrained cerebrospinal fluid causes an acute increase in intracranial pressure, resulting in the enlargment of the ventricles, as well as the cranium.
this disorder can be treated via surgical cerebrovascular shunting.
consult a pediatric neurosurgeon.
