Ultraviolet view of the cloudsThe Pioneer Venus Orbiter snapped this photo of the cloudy atmosphere on February 26, 1979, showing the ultraviolet spectrum. The winds at the planet's surface are slow, but in the upper atmosphere, the winds zip around the planet at about 186 mph. And even on the surface, it would be difficult to walk against the wind, because the atmosphere is so dense that the winds exert a significant amount of force against anything in their way.
