In commemoration of the town’s 40th Foundation Day celebration, local officials here launched the 1st Agbunan Festival.
Agbunan is the town’s old name prior to the coming of the image of Saint Isidore, the town’s patron saint.
The municipality of San Isidro was created on June 21, 1969 by virtue of Republic Act 5662 which the late president Ferdinand Marcos signed into law.
The town was formed with most of its barangays from Catigbian, while the rest of them were from the municipalities of Antequera, Calape and Tubigon.
Pedro Samuya, a teacher by profession, was the town’s founder and the 1st elected mayor. At the age of 101, he was still able to participate in the foundation day events anchored on the theme “Agbunan-Tinubdan sa Lungsoranong kahiusahan ug kalambuan.â€
The activities included a street-dancing and showdown where the contingent from barangay Cabanugan emerged winner in category B and the San Isidro Central Elementary School did it in category A.
Hundreds of San Isidrohanon and visitors flocked the streets and in the Central Elementary School grounds to watch the competition.
There were also showcases of organic farm products from the different barangays of the town.
The municipal government, headed by Mayor Apolinar Gumanid Jr., joined hand with barangay officials, DepEd-San Isidro officials to initiate the big event and made it with the assistance of the provincial government, Second District Rep.
