First Agbunan Festival of San Isidro Town, Bohol
« on: June 28, 2009, 07:32:42 PM »
In commemoration of the town’s 40th Foundation Day celebration, local officials here launched the 1st Agbunan Festival.

Agbunan is the town’s old name prior to the coming of the image of Saint Isidore, the town’s patron saint.

The municipality of San Isidro was created on June 21, 1969 by virtue of Republic Act 5662 which the late president Ferdinand Marcos signed into law.

The town was formed with most of its barangays from Catigbian, while the rest of them were from the municipalities of Antequera, Calape and Tubigon.

Pedro Samuya, a teacher by profession, was the town’s founder and the 1st elected mayor. At the age of 101, he was still able to participate in the foundation day events anchored on the theme “Agbunan-Tinubdan sa Lungsoranong kahiusahan ug kalambuan.”

The activities included a street-dancing and showdown where the contingent from barangay Cabanugan emerged winner in category B and the San Isidro Central Elementary School did it in category A.

Hundreds of San Isidrohanon and visitors flocked the streets and in the Central Elementary School grounds to watch the competition.

There were also showcases of organic farm products from the different barangays of the town.

The municipal government, headed by Mayor Apolinar Gumanid Jr., joined hand with barangay officials, DepEd-San Isidro officials to initiate the big event and made it with the assistance of the provincial government, Second District Rep. Roberto Cajes and First District Rep. Edgar Chatto. - the bohol chronicle

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Sorry dia ra ang history sa pikas thread bahin aning ig agbun or agbunan.
This was once a part of Antequera and was once called Macapagao because a person living there had a very harsh voice. People coming from this place referred to it as Macapagao.

Later the place was called Agbunan due to a plant called 'Bugang' which bears white flowers and which spreads or scatters (agbun) into the air when the wind blows.

When Catigbian was made a town during the Spanish regime, Agbun was one of the barrios of the newly created town. Favorable climate and fertile soil lured people to come to Agbunan and settled there. They were able to construct a chapel in honor of St. Isidore, the patron saint of farmers.

During the Phil-Am War, Catigbian was destroyed and its barrios were ceded to neighboring municipalities. Agbunan was back to Antequera. When Catigbian was restored, Agbunan again became a part of Catigbian. Agbunan or San Isidro was one of the big barangays of Catigbian.

Inspired by its rapid growth and development they began to nourish the dream of making their barrio into a town. Their dream was realized when on June 21, 1969, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos signed into law RA 5662 creating San Isidro as one of the towns of the Province of Bohol.
