2. Brooke Shields

Taken in 1975 by American fashion photographer - Garry Gross - this picture featured Brooke Shields nude. This is the cropped version of the photograph. At that time, Garry Gross was working on a project titled The Woman in the Child, in which he wanted to reveal the femininity of prepubescent girls by comparing them to adult women. The series was first published in the magazine Little Women, and then in Sugar and Spice, which is a Playboy Press publication. In 1981, a U.S. Court ruled that the images did not breach child pornography laws. Pictures were purchased by Richard Prince in 1992, reproduced, and sold for $151,000 in 1999.

3. 7/7 London Bombings

Dated July 7, 2005, CCTV cameras captured the bombers entering Luton station. An official inquiry by the British government indicated that the tape claiming responsibility had been edited after July 7. The lack of facts surrounding the case and its unusual timeline led to controversies. Also, controversially, no other CCTV images, either still or moving, have ever been released. Secondly, the photo is timed at four seconds before 7.22 am, which would have given the men only three minutes to walk up the stairs at Luton, buy their tickets, and move to the platform.

Viewing 4 of 9

4. Mary Moorman JFK Picture

A witness to the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Mary Ann Moorman is best known for her photograph that shows JFK a fraction of a second after being shot in the head. The photograph was taken approximately one sixth of a second after the bullet’s impact. The image has caused controversy because people also point to the light color observed over the wall (left side), which looks like photo doctoring. Moorman’s original photograph was never confiscated by the FBI she sold it for $175,000 on eBay.

5. NASA's Photo of the Lunar Landing

This photograph has been a subject of controversy ever since its release. Well, the world knows the controversy - how could the flag fly when there is no air on the surface of the moon. Secondly, the shadow created by the flag and its pole is opposite to the direction of the shadows of spacecraft and the astronaut. There were many more!

6. Piss Christ

This photograph is here for a reason - a big controversy. This is the work of a notorious American photographer Andres Serrano who uses feces, corpses, and bodily fluids in his work. In 1987, he created a photograph titled Piss Christ, which depicted a small plastic crucifix submerged in a glass of the artist’s urine. In 1989, the image was displayed for the first time and the event caused a massive scandal. Andres Serrano received death threats over the controversy, too. On April 17, 2011, a print of Piss Christ was vandalized beyond repair by Christian protesters while on display in Avignon, France.

8. Samar Hassan

Pulitzer Prize nominated Chris Hondros clicked it on January 18, 2005 while his travel to Iraq to cover the war. This is the photograph of 5-year-old Samar Hassan splattered in her parents' blood, whose car failed to stop at U.S. checkpoint and was opened fire at.
