Basco field school produces 20 graduates
BASCO, Batanes (29 June 2005) -- Personnel at the Basco DEMO farm in Sitio Malayo in this premiere town of Batanes had successfully transferred its technical expertise in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in vegetable production after 20 farmers graduated in IPM management thru the use of botanical pest controller and use of beneficial organic waste as fertilizer.
This activity is a joint project of Department of Land Reform (DLR) under the Agrarian Reform Community Development Program 2 (ARCDP2) in tandem with the Provincial Agricultural Office thru the Local Government Unit of Batanes.
The graduates in the Farmers Field School (FFS) are expected to lead the dissemination of Integrated Pest Management in vegetables to their fellow residents and further enhance their capability in producing vegetable products.
The graduates have undergone 6-month training and practicum which was started on January 28 until today.
The training program on IPM will be continuously conducted in other municipalities of Batanes in succeeding semesters to be undertaken by DLR and LGU Batanes. (PIA-Batanes)
